I think they should have left ITIL alone. Service Support in ITIL 2 works very well why they felt the need, apart from making money, to mess around with it is quite beyond me. And please spare me any lecture about ITIL needing to demonstrate "continuous improvement" !!

You do have a point.
Only very few organisations are currently at an ITIL v2 process maturity level to justify the move to ITIL v3.
